During a trip to Romania we were intrigued by the very dull communist style of buildings. Because we have been to many other countries with fabulously long histories and architecture, we were expecting the same in Bucharest. Once we did a walking tour we discovered the old town which had been moved back to make way for the new communist style building.

The parliament building had been built in the communist error. What you see above ground is not the whole of the building. The priminister at the time, put a lot of money in to make everything bigger and “better” than anywhere else in the world. Thus, the parliament building has hundreds of rooms and many of those are below ground.
