Doubtless bay is beautiful – a large inlet with several small towns and harbours hidden between white sand beaches, cliffs, dunes, seep waters and lots of secrecy. Hihi lies on the eastern side of the bay and looks due west across the water. It is difficult to capture a sunset with more interest than a setting sun – you have to work hard, look closely and try different things. For this photo I had to get close to the wet sand, judge the waves just right and find a rock to be my main subject. It was only then I could line up the setting sun to draw me across the water towards the night before the next day.
